In 1973, a group of over-sized Cubs who discovered they were suddenly too old for cub football formed a team called "Holy Name" with Richard Basjack as their manager and Stan Selby as their trainer.
And thus the club was born.
In the 1975/76 season with Jim Machin as Chairman, they never lost a game and decided to enter the, then, Chelmsford Mini League as Under 12's, after which Derek Bearman took over the helm.
In 1978, together with City Juniors, Westlands, Baddow Spartak, Springfield and Writtle (to name but a few), they were founder members of the Chelmsford Youth League when the Mini League and Junior Leagues amalgamated.
In 1979 whilst under the guidance of Howard Southall they changed their name to “Name United”
In 1989, when Bruce Martin was chairman, our Fun Days were born when four enthusiastic committee members - Pete Crockford, Trevor Smethurst, Bob Good and Chris Adams - organised a fund raiser for both the club and an Essex radio charity with a five-a-side tournament against Baddow Spartak.
In 1993 were invited to become Marconi Athletic Youth thanks to Terry Brailey who initiated the move having taken over as Chairman from Cliff Chung.
In 1995 they were invited by Chelmsford City to become their Junior section, with Nigel Henson as Chairman, and the City Colts came into being.
The club has since been chaired by Phil Rogers, Andy Golding, Steve Hall, Gordon Williams and currently Mark Davidson.
In 2002 City Colts again changed its name to Chelmsford City Youth FC.
In 2003 CCYFC gained the FA Charter Standard Development Club Award.
In 2006 we had grown to 21 teams spanning U7-U18, with teams in the Chelmsford Youth League and the Blackwater and Dengie League. We also entered four teams into the Eastern Junior Alliance league (U14, U15, U16 and U18)
In 2007 Chelmsford City Youth FC were awarded Charter Standard Development Club of the Year by Essex FA, and we were awarded the ClubSX award for ongoing improvements to the youth club. We held our first tournament at Melbourne Stadium.
In 2008 we were awarded the Essex FA Charter Standard Development Club of the Year for the second time.
In 2009 we entered our first team in a 9v9 league
In 2010 we were awarded the FA Charter Community Club Award
In 2011 we were presented with the FA Charter Community Club Award by Sir Geoff Hurst as part of the “Get into Football” campaign. After many years of playing on a variety of public pitches, we also adopted Marconi Leisure as our home ground for mini and youth soccer, sharing the facility with Chelmsford City Ladies.
In 2012 we held two summer tournaments, one in June and one in September, and were awarded Key Partner Club by the Essex FA and Chelmsford City Council as part of the Melbourne Stadium 3G development.
In 2013 the club was awarded a grant from the Football Foundation to help with the creation of new teams at the younger age groups.
In 2014 the club continued to grow, with 31 teams across three leagues. For the first time ever we entered four teams in one age group.
In 2016 we were granted Charitable Incorporated Organisation status by the Charity Commission, and we entered teams into the Brentwood Community Football Alliance Youth League for the first time.
